The last fifteen minutes of daylight on the open plain are like nothing else. The air turns amber, the ground darkens, and the horizon becomes a line of pure heat. Dusk at the Edge of the Plain does not depict this moment. It inhabits it.

The composition moves through three horizontal zones of colour that bleed softly into each other: a deep burnt sienna and raw umber ground at the base, rising through rich amber and molten gold at the centre, to a smouldering deep ochre at the upper register. There is no sun, no tree line, no figure.

The horizon is implied through a soft transition of tone rather than a drawn line, and the texture throughout is thick and painterly, with palette knife marks and layered pigment giving the surface a physical weight that translates well to both canvas and wood frame.
